For sale is my Mack Brass ZO "Falcon" F tuba. It pains me to let it go, but I'm not playing it as much.
The Good:
This is a really solid all-around F tuba. It's got great tone, range, color, and flexibility. The build quality is outstanding, the feel of the horn in your hands is solid and predictable, and best of all, it's really fun to play. It's big enough to hold down a brass quintet and has the high range to play tuba 1 in quartet.
I had the valves vented and lapped. The slides all move like butter. Works great with a C4 mouthpiece, but lights up with the Dillon F mouthpiece as well.
The Bad:
The pitch isn't perfect. When I was in good shape, it was completely manageable. But with a day job and a family (and most of my gigs being on sousa these days), I don't put in the time with long tones. If you're in college or on the F tuba regularly, pitch settles in nicely.
I am located in Durham near Tuba Exchange. I'm happy to meet you a reasonable distance if you're serious about the horn.
It comes with a Messina case in red. You'll never wonder which bag is yours at an audition or at Tuba Christmas. ;)
