B&S models 105 & 106...

Post by greenbean »

I know VMI / B&S had models that were similar (but different) to the well-known model 103/2103/3103/etc. There was a 104 that was a big Kaiser tuba, I believe. Anyone know what the 105 and 106 were? I used to have pages from a few B&S catalogs but I can't seem to find them.

No personal experience, but there are three Japan-based ads up on LeBay that seem to be for the same Weltklang stencil 105. The seller's given a fair description of the horn in the ad, so they might be willing to answer questions. Given there are three ads it might not be legit, though I notice the price works out to be the same among all three.

TheBerlinerTuba has a page from the B&S catalog on his blog that mentions the 3105

Thanks, guys! The 105 sure looks like a 103 with a possibly-bigger bell and bell krantz. I can't find catalogs on TheBerlinerTuba forum but - boy! - I am lucky I made it outta that rabbit hole alive! It's loaded with good stuff!

Not having looked at pictures of the backs (nor knowing anything of the mechanical condition) the price seems right, yes?

There's just the one page in the posting (shown below). Can't really make out anything that distinguishes 3105 significantly from the other models other than it is supposed to have 5 valves.

There is a post on the old site that links a pic of a 105 with 5 valves, but it doesn't match the layout of the horn in the eBay ad. No idea what to make of that other than the stencils' model numbers may not have matched the non-stencil model numbers.
