Willson 3400 RZ-4?

Post by tubacorbin »

Has anyone ever played this model? Interested in any first-hand experience with it. It seems an interesting choice to make a four valve, rotary Eb.

For that price? I’d buy it and RUN out of that store.

Then, I’d send the rotors to Martin Wilk to un-rotax them, maybe even convert the terrible linkage to Minibal stuff, and play the heck out of that thing.

Doesn’t look like there is a lot of room to add a 5th to the main stack, if you wanted to, but there are other solutions.

I don’t have the Eb version, but I have the F 3200RZ-5. I’d bet the Eb has better intonation, and the same kick a$$ response.

I had Martin do the same thing to my 3050 RZ, and would expect similar good results here as well.

The linkage... I can only imagine how expensive the parts are right now. I'd probably try to make it work as is for as long as possible.

Pricing isn’t… Horrible… At least, in my experience, though I haven’t done the linkage yet.

I think that tuba (the 3400) is a killer deal for $5K. Put $1,000ish into the valve surgery and it would be awesome as is.

Sadly, it seems like it’s already spoken for—with a long waiting list (I added my name to it, but not expecting it to fall to me).
