Hey Mike,
And I took lessons from Richard Frazier.Mikelynch wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 10:40 am Mark--Interesting to know you bought your Mirafone from Bill also.
I just bought a new Miraphone case from Thomann to replace one I had for nearly 30 years. With shipping and tariffs it was about $1,800.Mikelynch wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 10:40 am I bought my 186 BBb in 1966 (with some assistance). Then, the tuba was $650.00, and the hard case was $90.

I haven't seen Richard in forty years. Here is a recent interview Mike Grose did with him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wkJ4MHtwRE.tofu wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 6:02 pm I played with Richard Frazier in a group here in Chicago back in the 1980’s. If I recall he left the area to join the Oregon Symphony? What is he up to these days? Good guy.

Heh. When you wrote what you did, Spring Branch floated into my head. I went to Lee, and the Houston schools—even the more well-to-do schools north and west—were always envious of the much better band funding in Spring Branch. I drive up Chimney Rock from where I grew up and find myself at Memorial Drive in about five minutes—so close and yet so far :)
