FS: Holton BB 345, Satin Silver

Post by Checkpoint »

Itching for a BAT? I need to 'thin the herd' a bit and am offering a Holton BB 345 in satin silver, fully rebuilt by Joe Sellmansberger. Horn plays beautifully and is cosmetically excellent. Comes with Cronkhite gig bag. Asking $14,000 and located in NY area.

If it's been polished a few times since then, it's probably beginning to sport more of a vintage satin silver appearance. (??)

That bell was in remarkably good (original) condition before I even began working on that instrument, and that engraving was turned off to the side like that from the factory, so I just put it back that way.

Those #1 slides on those are PLENTY long for an in-tune (with pull) 1-4 low E-flat, and surely enough adjustment length for at least a couple of the pitches (if not most all of them) below the 2-3-4 low D.

I only polished it once during the time I had it, and I bet Jedd polished it once since he’s had it.

It was an awesome tuba to own, but I never did it justice.

It only takes two or three polishes with a typical abrasive silver polish to knock the harsh brand new appearance off of a satin silver finish. 🙂

That picture of Donatelli with the tuba that would eventually become the CSO York looks white. I'd wager that it was brand new and the bright light from the photography is why it had that appearance.

one thing I added (notice on a larger laptop or desktop computer screen)...

I added a top bow cap (which these do not normally feature).

Also, the upper guard wire...I had a bit of fun with it, and took it around further than normal. (I like LONG guard wires.)

Also, this instrument has the lightweight bloke finger buttons.

I did love this tuba, but I’m not nostalgic enough to buy it back.
