Conn sousaphone bell

Post by York-aholic »

Good evening. I'm on the lookout for a Conn Eb sousaphone bell to fit a 1926 28k. The sousa I picked up is brass but I wouldn't thumb my nose at silver. I think they were typically either 23" or 24" diameter and the male bell tenon was 6".

I'm in southern California. Please give me a yell if you have something that might fit.

Rats. I have a spare King Eb bell but I think the tenon is too small for you.

14K BB-flat bell will fit, as will 36K fiberglass bell.

Add to bloke's suggestions: Pan American, Cavalier, I think the 32K "lightweight," and a few others. The Eb souzys were made with essentially no change in specs for decades, so you should not have that much of a problem finding a bell. Of course, the bell is so prone to damage by school players that finding one in good enough condition may be the issue. For example, one of the souzys I have access to is a Pan Am that from the serial number is about 100 years old, but has a replacement Cavalier bell from the mid-1930's. The only thing wrong with it is worn valves. But I digress. So you should be able to find a bell that will work, as you said, so long as you are not concerned about whether lacquered or silver plated. Good luck!
