AI and the Arts

Jensen Huang says that AI can increase the value of human qualities that AI cannot replace. I agree. Any tool is good or bad depending on how one uses it.

What do you all think?

It seems to me the serf class and the ruling class are going to use it in totally different ways.

Serfs are going to use it to make silly videos and to ask it if any specific thing in particular causes any specific problem in particular with an automobile or a human body, to which AI will always answer in the affirmative.

The other way that serfs well interact with it is to ask it whether reasonable and sober people (who witnessed some occurrence, action, or event in real time) are reporting one of these correctly, or whether media is reporting it correctly, and AI will always side with media.

As far as the way the ruling class will use it, the ruling class will use it to distract serfs, to herd serfs, to orchestrate disagreements and wars - whereby serfs will sacrifice themselves for the good of the many, to misguide serfs, and to manipulate serfs in ways we haven't yet experienced, and to otherwise abuse serfs - with serfs feeling privileged that they have access to it and are allowed to interact with it. Related to our specific interests here, I predict that serfs will purchase tickets to hear AI composed symphonies.

Download and watch the c. 1960 movie, "The Time Machine", which is an updated to 1960 version of the H.G. Wells novel by the same name. Hey, if you think it's boring and the message.is predictable, the lead actress is pretty.

I would probably fall into thr "power user" category for AI and also work on researching and developing AI algorithms for my field (materials and metallurgy.. here's my latest paper https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1 ... 153/ae5e18).

I think we are so screwed. I make highly effective use of AI to accelerate tasks that I can already do very well myself. The problem is people are using it as a shortcut to do the things they can't do themselves,.. and they don't realize that the output is crap. I didn't have to flag students as cheating when they use AI for their homework.. I just give them an F for turning in a poorly done assignment.

When things get real bad and the Butlerian Jihad comes I hope my end is quick at least.

There was a quiz a few years back that went through several stylistic errors and had AI write a piece in the style and then had a piece that was actually composed in that style.

I got 100%, though one of the pieces was Tchaik 5. This was a very hard quiz, particularly on the Baroque keyboard pieces. Most of the other pieces were not standard pieces.

My wife made me watch the Terminator movie series and it made me weary of AI. My policy on AI is to be able to do it without it first, and I hate AI summaries

I dunno if I've ever said this, but I'm really glad you're here.
I've received p.m.'s from two or three people along the lines of "that Schlitzz person is weird" whereby I correct them, stating "that Schlitzz guy is hilarious".
Some of your funniest stuff (at least to me) is when you've cut me to pieces.
