If you have downloaded these in the past, you will want to get these and dump the old ones. Everything about these is better. Toner and printer paper? Pshaw! Pfft! DO IT! You will thank me after you have played them. Some have been updated (and a few significantly improved). Some are completely new. All have been re-engraved and are easier to read.
There are no longer chord changes over slash notation for soloists. I know that not everyone has a quintet with players who play changes. Despite my discomfort with it, I took the time to write out solos. Some of them are difficult and would require rehearsal, so even if your players are not jazzers, they need to have some chops.
Flugelhorn parts really *do* need to be played on that instrument, as it will not work as well with a trumpet on that part. But whatever. Do what you want.
I have included a few pieces that are not mine, but which I like a lot. I have done my own editions of them, sometimes due to crappy copy work on the original (with lots of misprints) or requested alterations (such as a different key or a new ending), and one song where I used about 2/3 of the original arrangement, albeit with heavy alteration, and then doubled the remainder with my own additions to make it a good bit longer, adding a solo chorus.
All have been carefully reset with new fonts and new page layout measurements, which give as much space to the music as you can get onto a sheet of 8.5"x11" printer paper without it becoming ridiculous.
I think the result is pretty great. Of course, I am a little biased in this…
EDIT: I changed the target of the link to the folder that encloses the quintet stuff. Now you can opt to pick up the quintet folders only, or you can ALSO pick up my quartet book, which is pretty decent and very useful if you are playing outside in the cold. The way we use them is either to give one of the trumpets a tune off, and rotate that for a few tunes. We also like to play these where the trumpets swap phrases, giving them a break but not letting them get cold. I have included one copy of each part, but you would want to duplicate the trumpet book and let each of them have one. And as an alternative to the alternative, I have used these with large brass ensembles at local colleges over the years. They work great in that setting. Nothing like playing four-part Christmas tunes at the mall with 60 brass players in "ugly Christmas jumpers". ($1 to Bridget Jones)
Please let me know if you use them, and post videos to YouTube of any performances they receive. Send me links. I love to hear my work being played!
