Tuba Repairs In The Atlanta Area

Post by Dan Schultz »

One of my customers will be moving to Atlanta for the coming school year. Who can I suggest he see for future service or repairs to his tuba?

I sold a JP F tuba, today, to a student who drove here from north central Georgia. He mentioned that there is a good repair shop in Athens. I will ask him if he would let me know who that person is - or what the name of that shop is…

...EDIT: OK. I just sent the email, and I will post the name of the repair person or shop, as soon as I get a response.

Kevin Bowen owns North Georgia Horn Works in Kennesaw and has worked on my horns over the years. He is meticulous, professional, and personable. Kevin repaired/rebuilt Fred Mills' trumpet after his death, which the family buried with him. Rich Ita (Brass Instrument Workshop) has done the majority of the work on three of my horns and is my first port of call as he is closer to my part of Marietta. Rich has a great young man in his shop (his name escapes me) that does outstanding work, as good as Rich's. I've recommended both men to my friends and each one has a web page as well as Facebook.

Anyone local should offer their own review, but I was told by a student in northern Georgia that they get a few things done at this place:

Yes to Kevin and Rich. Also, I don't know if Bayne Dobbins in Cartersville is still working on tubas, but he was a master repairman and restorer. Hunter Moss in Rome is good and has a lot of experience with tubas and contrabass bugles.

Not any more. Long time family store, done in by the Covid. Closed,

Music store to B-52s, REM. Widespread Panic - more mundane - UGA, tens of thousands of students of all levels.
