1914 Holton 3+1 "Monster" Eb tuba
Hello! Up for sale is a beautiful 1914 Holton 3+1 Eb Monster tuba. This is in remarkable shape for its age. There is a well made small patch on one of the second valve knuckles. Plating on the pistons is pristine other than a slight bit of wear on the fourth valve. Overall plating on the horn is almost immaculate!
This horn plays great! The low end is responsive and the high end sings and has a beautiful timbre. This is big enough to play in a concert band. It is also well suited to brass quintet and solo playing. The only wonky note is F in the staff, but it centers well with 1 and 3.
My asking price is $1800. With all the service it's had, brand new case, etc, I think that's a fair price. I do need to sell it to have repairs done on my beloved 1999 Expedition, so I'll consider all reasonable offers!
Included with the horn is a new-old-stock Reunion Blues gig bag in like-new condition. I would prefer a local sale in the Sacramento California area, but I can ship it at the buyer’s expense. Please let me know if you have any questions about the horn. I have plenty of pictures of it as well. For questions and pictures, please email me at chcmb@hotmail.com. Thank you very much for looking!

Re: 1914 Holton 3+1 "Monster" Eb tuba
I actually won the eBay auction for this tuba...I paid for it, then the seller said he would ship it in two days...then I received a message saying that he wanted to back out of the sale because of the cost for shipping... without contacting me to work something out (I could have funded the extra cost for shipping)...No worries Just make sure that you have a "deal" first

Re: 1914 Holton 3+1 "Monster" Eb tuba
Hello,
I sincerely apologize for backing out of the sale on eBay. They informed me that they would withhold the funds until January 31st, and I wasn't able to afford to ship it. A friend suggested I list it here to try for closer to what I was hoping to get for it.
Once again, my apologies

Tempting. It would go with my satin silver 1929 Holton non-compensating euphonium (courtesy @bloke). I'm nowhere near local, though, and fear the shipping might be half the price.
Is it standard pitch?

None of your photos picture the case which is part of the price. Can you post those?ussglassman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 10:38 pm My asking price is $1800. Citrus Heights CA, near Sacramento. The case was brand new when I bought it last summer. It's plain black woven fabric.
