Any MW 2145 or 2155 out there?

I recently missed Tom's gem of a 2145, but it got me thinking about a few things.

Anyone have a 2145 or 2155 they're thinking of listing?
Bonus points for the BBC edition 2145.
Double bonus points for a 2157.

Sometimes I wonder how many of these were made. Seems like the 2155 was the biggest seller when if finally showed up.

The older small valve horns would be great with some mods, especially the MAW valves.

I'm guessing only a few 2157s. Those were a limited run special for Dillon Music. Different engraving and... Who knows. Something Matt told them to do or something.:)

The BBC Edition 2145 was great. Back when I lived in Baltimore, it seemed like they always had a few around the shop. Larger bell and the inner slide tubing length was reduced or something to improve responsiveness. Other tweaks that Dave vowed to never share publicly. A gem of a tuba.

I understand your interest in the MW 2145. Of the three different tubas I used in church and in Oakland's Prometheus Symphony Orchestra over a span of ten years, I got very favorable comments from the audience (MW 2145 big valve model); brassmates and conductor (Cerveny 601 CC); and church congregation (MW Bill Bell model CC). I still wish I had a tuba again--------a Miraphone 188 CC.

@Ace , don't get me started on the 188... I think that's gotta be my one and only eventually... Not quite there yet.

I like the output and size/portability of the 2145. And the moderate size-up of the 2155 keeps from pushing the 45 to it's limit too much. But I like both.

Portability had become a bigger concern with me the last few months. I can get around with the Rudy. Most days, it's a hassle at best. At worst... Well, I won't go there. But my house has a LOT of stairs, it's awkward to get it in/out of my house, and car, and everything else. Kinda might just need to simplify my life.

Have you checked FB? I think a 2000 just got posted there. Probably for much more money, though.

Have you considered a 3450? Probably easier to find.

Have you talked with Lee Stofer about his custom CC tubas? He's sold about a dozen so far, maybe a current owner is looking to trade?
Either that or consider his slicked 'n tricked King idea, as long as you're currently in BBb mode. You could always try mine for a week or two. I do think Lee should add it to his regular catalog.

I'm generally not the biggest fan of the Getzen G50 tuba size/shape, but anything is possible. Biggest barrier there is the price.

The tuning range with those (yes?) is less than an inch, but (come to think of it) I don't find myself ever moving my tubas' main slides anywhere close to an inch.

Ideally, it would be nice to supplement the Rudy.

But increasingly, I'm finding it difficult to get around with the Rudy transportation-wise. I wouldnt say it's completely exhausting, but it's tiring.

Playing that tuba is a thrill, and I love the sound and the playability.

But in a house with a LOT of stairs, narrow hallway, car gymnastics to get it in there... And then thinking about doing this during 6 months of snow and ice... I just seem to be pushing my luck and trying my patience. With medium sized tubas in the past, I love the grab and go nature of things. There are always tradeoffs, I just need to decide where mine are

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!
I, for one, fully comprehend your thinking. Going from my 345 to the 191 was a breath of fresh air, convenience-wise. Although the 191 is called a 5/4 and my King called a 4/4, the King feels closer to the 345 in size and in effort to tote. Part of that could be that the wonderful Miraphone top-loading bag for the 191 was much trimmer than is my Cronkhite 2341 bag, which seems rather clunky to get thru narrow doors or in stairways. Much more Holton-like.
The only really convenient tuba to tote is my 103, which is ridiculously handy, even more-so than my trombone case. But that's moving to a much smaller horn, of course.
You're not hurting anyone by trading, and you're good at it. Just enjoy.

I don't see the 2145 very often and the 2155 almost never. Another horn in that size range is the MW 37, which seems to appear not infrequently on the BBC used listings.
