I also extended my C tuba to B (natural) and played it that way for a few weeks and also on a couple of jobs (pops concerts, which heavily leaned towards the guitar keys). It sounded fine, played just as well in tune, and it got me outside of my “box” as well as thinking in a little bit different way. I didn’t ask whether anyone else had ever done that, because I suspected that no one had the courage. 😐
So did you learn a new set of fingerings or just modify the key in your head and use CC fingerings?

sort of did a “capo shift” in my brain…
…I’m not sure if I can explain what goes on in my head when I do transpositions like that.
I guess I just sort of have this background mantra that “ F is home“, “ C is home“, “E flat is home”, “ B or B flat is home“…(??)

That sounds like what horn players did before valves. Put in a different slide, and play by the position in the harmonic series.
