I am helping a friend out West sell some instruments.
For sale...perfect for Octoberfest...is an upright 3 rotor Eb tuba marked FEts Columbus O. All slides and valves work. Bell 15 3/8". Nice player. Comes with a soft bag.
Charles A. Gaetz Columbus, Ohio
1887 -Charles A. Gaetz is born in Germany (marriage cert.)
c1902 -Charles begins an apprenticeship in Graslitz, Austria at a brass band instrument factory [probably B&F] (National Register of Historic Places Survey [NRHP])
c1905 -Charles moves to Erfurt, Germany and works for Kruspe (NRHP)
1907- Charles emigrates to the US at New York City to work as a repair expert before moving to Chicago. (NRHP)
1909- Charles moves to Columbus and starts building his own music business (NRHP)
1911 -Charles establishes his first store (NRHP)
1913 -Charles A. Gaetz, manufacturer, importer, & repairer of musical instruments, #22 Wesley Block, #101 N. High St (Columbus city directory)
1919 -Charles moves to #51-53 West Long St at the cornet of North Front St. (NRHP) (below)
1920 -Charles A. Gaetz, manufacturer of musical instruments, emigrated in 1907, Columbus (census)
1930- Charles, music store owner; son Lloyd (b.1912) is clerk (census)
1931 -Charles buys the store building and Lloyd becomes a partner (NRHP)
1940- Lloyd Gaetz, music store owner & manager (census) 1957 Charles dies on July 27th (NRHP)
1972- The business closes at Lloyd’s death on July 21st (NRHP).
The horn and bag are now lowered and price to sell: $500 plus packing and shipping. Contact Mark at: jonestuba@gmail.com
