Is My Audition Repertoire Good Enough For Non-Music Major?

Post by wgw327 »

Hey all! I'm currently a senior in highschool and I am looking to submit an arts supplement at a pretty selective college in hopes of getting a decent scholarship. I won't major in tuba but am considering a minor. Do you think my repertoire will help?

Haddad - Suite For Tuba
Handel - Sonata No. 6
Newton - Capriccio
Gregson - Concert Mvt. 1 (Maybe)

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Depends on the college, but it seems fine to me.

Also, need to make sure scales and regular audition stuff is in good order.

If I'm submitting recordings as a supplement, should I also include scales, or no?

Do they ask for them? If no, skip.

Though not quite the same I seem to recall similar posts on here … so a search is worthwhile.

IIRC the wisdom from those both here and in the know was to contact the college(s) where you hope to go and specifically the music professors who would judge. Take some lessons from them too and view it as an investment - seems to be the way it’s done. Again, IIRC, the judge is simply interested in having a good Tuba player available to support their program of performances/performers - but check that out for yourself by asking those that hand out the scholarships what they’re looking for (both player specialty and time commitments) in your entry year.
