And now for something completely different. I am the only tuba in a community band, 40-60 players, depending on the circumstances of year, concert, availability, etc. Don't overlook the Jupiter JTU1110. Tweaked by Patrick Sheridan. Yes, I can not only support the band, but I can out-blow them if I am not careful. Intonation is great. I pull 1st slightly for G's & D's, push for 2nd space C, and with a good mouthpiece, solid from pedals to stratosphere.

Had to get special permission from the captain because the deck check in crew didn't know the policy, but I'm on and headed home. Very stressful morning waiting on the ruling, I actually booked a rental car to make the 15 hour trip in case they didn't let the tuba on.

Nice work!

No case? Is that a bed sheet covering it up?

Looks like a Meinl-Weston felt tuba bag.

That was nice of you to give the tuba the window seat.

I see the Meinl Weston logo in the first picture now. Very cool.

Legato (with FatBastard) become non-issues, after I vented the rotors.
Maybe that instrument already offers an effortless legato, but otherwise...(??)

Did you get to eat the tuba's in flight meal or at least drink it's beverage?
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

Yeah, due to budget cuts, only American and Delta provide in-flight drinks and food for tubas now. United will only serve euphoniums.

The thumb ring was present but not installed. I took care of that, checked the valve alignment with a borescope (3 out of 4 were off) and tightened some loos screws in the linkage

Getting better, pretty darn good for a 60 year old horn. Lots of compression, especially in the 3rd and 4th valves

Intonation? I've heard the BBb 601 is more in tune than the CC.

So far middle F is a bit flat, and the C in the staff is too. Might wind up shortening the main tuning slide a bit to give me room to pull those up to pitch with a stick. But yes, as someone that has owned a 601 CC for over 10 years, the intonation is better

If the F is less than 10c. flat - and if you don't feel as though you need to move the main slide for other pitches - I could offer an alternative suggestion for second space C...

If you mean 4th valve, I tried that, and it's the same amount flat once I adjusted the 4th valve so low C (and surprisingly B) are in tune

Didn't try 1-3. That might be better

For players who choose to move the main tuning slide my suggestion wouldn't be of any use.
