I think the new price for one of these is $8,500, but that was a year or two ago so it might have gone up (slightly).

Got a quotation from Buffet tubashowroom a couple of months ago for a silver plated MW 2182W (not sure if exactly the same model) but price was 9750 USD.

You are correct. I have a price sheet direct from Buffet about 1 month ago. The 2182W lists for $9,750 with a gig bag.

2023 or 2024? I have one labeled 2024 with a slightly higher price of $10,050. Still much lower that the OP's asking price.

Now the Tuono from the same seller is priced right I think, about $2000 less than new according to the current price sheet

Atleast on the older catalogue from 2022 or 2023 you can buy a regular 2182 for $1000 cheaper than the 2182W.

I got a list from a month ago and it listed the 2182w at $9750, so hypothetically the 2182 should be $8750 new.

They sent me their price list sheet when I sent them an email asking for price on a "discontinued" horn (not that 2182W, but they sent the whole list). I suggest send them an email at:

Being a stocking dealer would be financially interesting, as the value of money is going down so fast. What you as a dealer pay for it, if you don't move it right away, you might have trouble even getting that back in the deflated dollar amount not that very much later. That's one reason why I decided to pop for a new tuba while I could, because a year from now who knows how much of my non-inflating retirement stash I'd have to pay for it.

This is what I have. I received it on December 17th of 2023. Even more interesting is they still list the 2040/5 at a really attractive brand new price. I wonder how hard that would be to procure...

I mentioned this in 2022 when people were selling their horns for thousands more than a new one. Simply put, people didn’t know, and likely still don’t know that you can buy directly from the Buffet company and they don’t sell directly to vendors.

It makes sense and is a clever sales model. Cut the middle man to compete with the cheaper Chinese horns. Some of the smaller shops that carried them might have received some issues (like not getting profit for any stock they had), but many have gone on to selling other brands.

Off topic: how is a B&S 3099 or 3100 a 6/4 F tuba? Isn’t that the smallest rotary F with the B&S name?
