FS: Walters/Conn/King 4/4 CC
Putting up an excellent horn for sale. I’m simply not playing and this horn needs to be used.
It’s tantamount to a prototype of the Eastman ECB-632. But better. Way better, imo. Response and sound is easy and free. It’s the “classic American sound” in 4/4 size. One can use various mouthpieces to adjust the tone as desired.
It’s made from a pre-WWII Conn ‘Monster’ Eb bell and bottom bow. The body and valves are King. You can see that @Matt Walters fabricated the valve circuits from nickel silver and brass. The are perfectly aligned and every slide moves like butter. The fifth rotor is a Yamaha (I’m guessing) and is removable for cleaning. The leadpipe is also nickel silver.
No dents. It’s in great condition. No lacquer but polishes up nicely. Horn was made in 2005.
Intonation is quite excellent. E and Eb in the staff need to be played 1-2 and 2-3 respectively. D is fine with the slide all of the way in. So yes, that partial is a bit low, like 99% of other tubas.
Comes with a custom made gig bag from Superfine. I will say that @greenbean did an excellent job on this bag (and my 2165 bag). I’m not parting out the horn from the bag. I want to clear this in one transaction.
Edited.
Horn is at Dillon Music. Price is $7,995.
If you want to play a horn built by Matt that is pure magic, now’s your chance. Additional payment flexibility as well.

Re: FS: Walters/Conn/King 4/4 CC
I met up with Matt before Christmas and tried out his herd. This is probably the best piston 4/4 CC tuba I have ever played. I brought my Eastman 832 to compare, and while I love my horn, Matt's is a serious upgrade which is reflected in the price point and worth every penny. Super easy to play, doesn't easily break up, fantastic slotting, great intonation. Awesome tuba; somebody will be very, very happy!

I can vouch that this is a fantastic tuba and worth every penny. Well worth the added cost vs. a new Eastman 632 or 832.

I didn’t get to play on this today, but I was there when Matt was dropping it off and got to take a look at it. It’s a beautiful instrument in excellent condition, and everything I’ve ever played that Matt Walter’s made has been a fantastic instrument. I’m sure this one isn’t going to stick around!
