Re: Live music performance attendance
They need to be really really extraordinarily amazing artists, for me to do that, and I'm not much on traveling two or three hours for something like that, either.
Sadly, I'm had to miss out on hearing Eddie Van Halen not all that long ago, as well as the amazing western swing band, Asleep At The Wheel (which was actually a small venue performance with unbelievably low ticket prices).
The ticket prices were very reasonable for both, but they were both in Memphis, it would have just been too dangerous, I only have liability insurance on my vehicles, and a can't afford to have them stolen.
Admittedly, my interests in hearing live music rarely involve so-called classical music (which - let's be completely honest - is all COVER BAND music). Quite a few years ago (regarding quasi-classical music), I did purchase some tickets to hear Burning Brass. Besides the remarkable performance, I wanted to hook up once again with a couple of old friends who participate in that ensemble. There are a whole bunch of concerts around here whereby I can just slip in, admittedly.

Re: Live music performance attendance
I'm spoiled in that I only have to drive 15 minutes to see two professional orchestras (Madison Symphony and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestras), and the prices are pretty reasonable, so I go to most of the MSO concerts.

Re: Live music performance attendance
That IS sad. I saw them in 1979 in a barn in Medford, Oregon. That ticket was $7.50. I had to mow a few lawns to come up with that.
Ever since Rush stopped touring I had not been to a musical performance. That is, until I drug the old lady kicking and screaming to see Leonid and Friends. If you have not seen them check them out. Commies got chops.

Another intriguing group, @Cameron Gates is Lake Street Dive.
The closest they will be - to me - is Indianapolis this summer, and at my most hectic time

Re: Live music performance attendance
Since I am playing all the time, when I have an evening off, I'd rather stay home and snuggle the spaniels.
