Congratulations. Impressive achievement! :bow2:
E6 starting, paid-to-play, with a regular paycheck, housing, travel, camaraderie, service . . .
checks a lot of boxes.

Reminder for those of you with young musicians in your circle who, while capable instrumentalists, don't play at the President's/Pershing's level: the Marine bands are another great option. Longer boot camp, lower starting rank (E2, typically), but a lot of similar benefits, and it's a fabulous 'adulting' program (maybe ~the~ benefit).

I believe I read that he's going to start out in the ceremonial band, as I believe most do. That's a tough job. It's a lot of standing at attention with a sousaphone in the heat, cold, rain/sleet/snow while not showing any discomfort or need to pee or any of that sort of thing. There are also all of the requirements of having a perfect uniform and all that sort of thing, particularly as they are ceremonial. The standards for playing are also very high, as - after all - this is a professional band as well as a DC band - whether it's indoors or outdoors.
I'm sure this young man is up to the job.

Diego......
You don't know me, but your father was kind enough to talk to me via phone a year or so ago regarding Colburn & LA. My daughter was slated to audition out there, and we were looking for info regarding location, places to stay, safety, etc. Anyway, we were there and you out auditioning somewhere, and "Spencer" (trombone player) told us all about you and Colburn....... all good.

Congrats on the new job!! Best wishes for a very successful career!!!

If he gets to play at Arlington, families will be very appreciative.

The Navy band played for my FIL but just the same,

I believe that's one of the primary duties of the ceremonial band. Of course they are located within a few feet of Arlington Cemetery.
