Sousa anyone?

Post by Craig F »

The President's Own Marine Band has put out a collection of all of Sousa's marches which are now all public domain. A recording plus new edited edition sheet music (updated to modern instrumentation) is provided. All free to download.

Thank you! I had forgotten about that. We're playing the Stars and Stripes Forever tomorrow at my 40th birthday party!

This link should be a "sticky" in the favorites bar for every tuba player.

Not a computer nerd, but definitely an old band geek. How do I get hard copies of the collection?

The Marine Band does not sell hard copies. You need to print them yourself or take the PDFs to a print shop.

What Craig F said: when you click on a particular march, look to the right side of the screen for a rectangle button to download score and parts, then print them yourself. As set forth on the site, one caveat: the marches in Volume 7 are not yet in the public domain.

Most of the marches are free to download; but some of the latter marches are not yet in the public domain.

I found several USMC Band recordings online. They cover up to twenty marches each. With a part for flute, Three different saxes, trombone, baritone and tuba for each march, I should be able to keep busy. I am 74 right now. How much time I have left to play is up in the air. I just has two of my musical friends die off in the last month.

Sousa’s marches are classics, and having modern editions with recordings for free is such a great gift for musicians and fans alike.
