Looking for a lube to use with the 1st/5th valve slides on a 1983 Mirafone 188. Monster Oil trumpet slide oil is a bit too thin, and Bach tuning slide grease is a bit too thick. Short of a DIY combination of the two, any recos for something out-of-the-bottle that’s ready to go?

Walmart "Equate* brand mineral oil (16 oz for under $3).

@bloke's mineral oil works well if you're slides are really well aligned and parallel. I personally found in my less than perfect tubas... cutting Schilke slide grease or lanolin with some valve oil works best. Just s thin layer of grease on the side then a few drops of oil and work the slide. As more oil if needed.
As amateur as they come...I know just enough to be dangerous.

Honda Shin Etsu silicone grease - available at any Honda Parts dealer. Every good mechanic of all brands uses this stuff for window channels - it’s simply the best and has to perform in wet/dry conditions and not deteriorate or degrade and be smooth operating. Or Phil Woods bicycle grease - the stuff serious cyclists use. Has to work in the worst possible openly exposed conditions of water and grit contaimination and for long periods of time. I use both with zero complaints. Not super cheap (good sized tube of either around $10-12 bucks), but a little bit lasts for a long time and if you’re like me with lots of bikes and cars and other things there are multiple uses.

Anhydrous lanolin. Inexpensive, works great, and available at almost any drug store (or online).

I have found lanolin good for slides that do not have to move; and think I will get some of the Honda stuff to see what it is about.

I've used Super-Lube and Phil Wood grease on slides. Both work well, but both are a little slower than this stuff for tune-on-the-fly slides: https://www.resilienceoils.com/products ... -slide-gel
