Re: Looking for a mienl weston 2165
The 2165 and the Eastman play and sound nothing at all alike beyond "big". I have owned both. I would just get the Eastman, but they are inconsistent, so a trip to Dillon would allow you to play several, which gives you a much better chance of getting one you really like. It would be at the upper end of your budget, though, but so would a good example of a used 2165.
Best of luck!

Re: Looking for a mienl weston 2165
I would only consider a 2165 if the following has occured:
1) It has a smaller taper mouthpipe (45SLP et al) on it
2) It’s not dented up/worn out
3) It is under $10,000
I wouldn’t spend more than $8,500 on one. It should come with a case.

Ok thank you I really appreciate it. Definitely leaning towards an 836 now.

Re: Looking for a mienl weston 2165
If you would like to see my own work to get a 2165 from “stock” to “incredible” please see my thread here: https://tubaforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=10368HectorG2006 wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 8:48 am Ok thank you I really appreciate it. Definitely leaning towards an 836 now.
To be clear, I don’t recommend you go out and try to do this. Parts accumulation took over a year, and the horn still isn’t done. (It could be, I have another big project to do first)
My own 2165 is a very fine instrument, and I’m quite fond of it. It will be as good as it can be when I’m done with it; and it’s great now, but a LOT of time, effort, thought, and money have been put into it to get it to this point.
Worth a look.
