Re: Interesting Tuba
Unclebeer--Could very well be Deprins. From what I see on horn-u-copia, the relevant Deprins and Mahillon look strikingly similar, differing largely in the placement of the 1st valve slide (which could be attributable to the pictures Deprins being a CC, and the Mahillon a BBb). It's not the first ...

Interesting Tuba
Thought this unusual tuba might be of interest to some.
I watched a youtube video of the Gil Evans band playing Jimi Hendrix in Warsaw in 1976, with Bob Stewart on tuba (link below). Bob is playing an interesting tuba that I did not recognize, particularly because of the shepherd's crook ...

The price on this instrument has been reduced. If someone is interested, and makes arrangements with me, the horn can be at NABBA in Fort Wayne, IN next weekend.

Re the mouthpiece, Bloke—the Conn Visible Embouchure mouthpieces. They were made for all brass. They were made is transparent red and clear, though the clear ones are harder to find to find these days. I recall seeing a picture of one in another color at some point.

Re: Mirafone fantasy
Mark--Interesting to know you bought your Mirafone from Bill also.
I bought my 186 BBb in 1966 (with some assistance). Then, the tuba was $650.00, and the hard case was $90. At that time, I had never seen a tuba bag. That instrument had the classic Mirafone lacquer that would deteriorate if one ...

5th valve slide assembly for PT6/MRP?
I know this may be a long shot, but does anyone have an extra such 5th valve slide assembly they could/would part with? I need the W-configured assembly, as well as the narrower tuning slide that fits into it.
Thanks in advance!

Looking for a Rotary Valve King CC, sold through Baltimore Brass
Anyone in TubaForum land happen to buy a pristine rotary valve King CC from BBC (sometime probably 2014 to 2018). It had both upright and recording bells.
If the current owner has any interest in parting with it, I'd love to know.
Thanks!

Re: My take on MAW valves - Long term thoughts
Just so all are aware, Martin also has an "intermediate" MAW valve, that is not quite as open as the standard MAW valve, but is much lighter than B&S stock pistons, and the surface is also much more "slippery" than the B&S stainless steel pistons.I have them on two B&S horns now.

Besson 993 Front Action Sovereign For Sale (Price Reduced)
For those wanting a relatively modern brass band BBb, but without the blood draining from your right arm, or the giant reach around the horn for the 4th valve, this is the solution. These were introduced about the time of the release of the 983 Ebs, so dates to the late 80's to early 90's.

2165 Tuba For Sale $8,800 (Sold)
Since my playing opportunities have recently shifted from mostly CC to mostly BBb, I am parting with one of the CCs that just hasn't been in the limited current rotation.
This 2165 was modified by Joe Sellsmanberger, to replace the stock leadpipe with the 45SLP leadpipe (like the 2265); and also to ...

Re: Question re off-the-wall mouthpiece
Thanks Mark! I had not seen reference to Doug's earlier numbering system. But it's less of a mystery now how well the shank is married to the cup. Dooh!!

Question re off-the-wall mouthpiece
I have a 3-piece mouthpiece from a friend which I initially assumed was all Doug Elliott, due to it having a Doug Elliot cup ("TU N"). But taking a less superficial look, the rim looks to be a Houser stainless steel rim, with no typical markings, but a faint " 2 0". so that's a bit of a mystery ...

Re: towards a better four valve non-compensating system
You’re in good company, Bloke. Bill Bell’s King Eb, and his F (that he used for the US premiere of the Vaughn-Williams) both had a tritone 4th valve (and were both 4v horns).
