Re: WTB case for Yamaha 103

Thanks for the links, just wish I could find a case that wouldn’t cost almost as much as the instrument in it

WTB case for Yamaha 103

Maybe a long shot as these 103 sized instruments tended to get abused in school systems, but anyone out there got one of those sturdy but lightweight hard cases for a Yamaha 103? I know the same case fits several different models. Open to suggestions for other case options that fit well. This is for ...

Re: What's your favorite "slow" piece?

I’ll throw in a curveball for fun…more accessible to us amateurs and a wind band piece too. When the OP said slow burn, this popped in my head :tuba: https://youtu.be/2vAM5nIPBzk?si=8bjaeUJwmxgdS491 But I completely agree with Adagio for Strings. That piece is so good even Barber went mad knowing he ...

Not a salesman but just throwing this out there…

This $hit’s good stuff. Maybe it wouldn’t have the same effect? I’m no physiochemist though :red:

Euphonium intonation tendencies

I’m trying to determine if I’m completely nuts, or if it’s possible that it’s not just me…. I have two 4-valve, in-line, non-compensating euphoniums; a Conn 19i (same as king 2280) and a Willson 2704. Both are great instruments, though clearly different. They work great for a tuba guy that just doesn ...

Re: Olds O-99

Ok, moment of genius. Somehow, I managed to mistake the 2nd #3 slide for the #4 slide, so I had it way out for 4th, and only the 1st #3 slide pushed in all the way…I’m blaming sleep deprivation, but I realize that was just dumb oversight. :facepalm2: Anyway, it is a rather uncommon layout, right? Re: Olds O-99

I had an Olds O-99-4 a few years back (mentioned on several ocassions that I regret selling it). Had the third tuning slide shortened so it would play better in tune. After that was one of the better BBb tubas I've played in regards to pitch. Overpriced, but if someone were local (wouldn't have to ...

Re: Olds O-99

@dreamofoenghus Please let us see it and hear it once you receive it! @bort2.0 There is nothing inherently wrong with an abundance of research preceding a serious outlay of cash. Measure twice, cut once. You know how I am about such things. I will try to do so. Just keep in mind that I’m not p ...

Me too, honestly, but they actually pulled it out and weighed it per request and called me right back with the measures. Sure, I’m taking their word, but it’s all I have to go on.

Re: Olds O-99

Thanks for all the feedback. I did talk with them, and they weighed the horn alone and with the case. Horn weighed 18.8 lbs, and in the case was 40 lbs. I thought that was pretty good for my particular situation. I can always get a decent bag to go with it to lighten the load for transport. I ...

Olds O-99

Ok, I’m asking the jury for a verdict…I know, I know, ask and ye shall receive. But seriously, I’m kinda looking for something like this, a smallish BBb that still has a real tuba sound in the lower register, lightweight, so forth. Old man tuba, so to speak, though I’m not old enough yet. More like h ...

Re: Houston CL: MW BBb

In regards to the actual horn in question here, does anyone have personal experience with this model? Based on bloke’s comparison to the 186, and assuming the quality of Meinl of that era was good (I have no knowledge in that department), this thing at least caught my eye. Not like I can drive to t ...

Most any of Jack Schrader’s TTBB arrangements are good. This is the first collection and I think there’s at least 8.

Re: Cronkite bag strap question

Ok, I’ll bite, Mr. Bort. I have an Eb tuba with a Cronkite non-leather (is that canvas?) bag. I’m a rather broad-shouldered fellow myself but it seems to fit alright. But come to think of it, I haven’t really paid attention to how close they actually are. I just put it on. I don’t ever have to carry ...
