1920's Tuba (Besson?) on The Rapair Shop

I am a fan of this show on Youtube. Always interesting repairs and sometimes restored older objects with high sentimental value. They made a third valve for this tuba from brass. I think it is Besson - possibly Eb compensating - judging by the long valves. There are other objects in this episode. I ...

Re: Storing bell-front tubas

I use the Hercules stand. I had a bell front Mirafone 186. I now use it for my Eastman. Very sturdy and off the ground.

Re: Mouthpiece questions/experiences/etc.

I have owned a couple of Mirafone 186 tubas in the past. Here are my mouthpiece experiences on them. Conn Helleberg 120S - it works well. It just felt limiting in the lower register to me. Perantucci Tuba Mouthpiece PT-88+ - great lower register. Takes a lot of air. Sold it to another 186 player ...

Re: Luggage Dolly for Non-Wheeled Case

I use a simple moving dolly I bought from Harbor Freight for 12 bucks. It’s a simple wood rectangle with carpeting on each end and pretty sturdy casters. Right now I use a ratchet strap to hold it in place but I may come up with something more elegant. No handle, but a handle kit is available from H ...

Re: Hard cases with wheels.

Why not keep the padded bag and use one of these https://a.co/d/6cImQEn ? I used one to move my bell front Mirafone 186 and my Cerveny 601. Once I get into another group I may use it on my Eastman with a gig bag. I like the fact I can pad the bottom and have the bell up. The body is protected by a ...

Re: If you can't get in, don't go change your password...yet.

They seem to be back up. Based on the amount of time for the outage it seems more likely it was a rollout of some sort that was rolled back. Enterprise technology is quite complex at this level. Chances are they will not release the reason for the outage due to security concerns. Meta will not ...

yes...You're are considerably taller than I am. no...I can't tell s--t from looking at a picture. no...I can't experience playing that tuba from your perspective... OK...(and I may well be wrong)... It almost looks as thought (were the instrument held at LESS of an angle than in the picture) that ...

I found this company https://www.hsm-brass.de/tuben.html - last one listed. Re: Demo Eastman EBB825

I bought a demo horn from Dillon Music. It is my Eastman and it plays great and I got it for a few thousand less than new. I guess it depends on the store. I have a lot of faith in Dillon Music and Matt checking them.

Re: What do you want from a conference?

I would like to see if maybe a community band with multiple tuba players would perform and a discussion about playing locally if you are not in a music program (major).

I would also like to see less fees to just meet and see the vendors.

I have seen drum kits with the cowbell mounted to a stand and hit with a drum stick. Maybe see if the percussion group has a stand for it?

Re: ITEC 2025

For a musical organization, they sure are tone deaf to their actual membership. Although, the inner circle is surely thrilled. The one this year was in my area. However, with all the costs, and looking at membership it was too much. I don't feel it is worth it to me. The organization seems to not ...

Re: Conn tubas: discussion thread

The first tuba I owned was a Conn 20J. It was a tank. I had all the dents removed and a new lead pipe put in. Awesome playing tuba with a Helleberg 120 mouthpiece and one bit. It was like playing a howitzer. I think it is great on outdoor gigs. I never played the four valve one but imagine it would ...

Conns at Mike Nye instrument repair in Tempe AZ

Mike Nye instrument repair in Tempe has some tubas for sale if you are local . I saw these when having some work done on my Cerveny. He doesn't have the staff to update these on his website. Give him a call for more info. I have done a lot of business with him over the years and just thought I would ...

Re: New plan for a BBb

Sorry for my late reply. It was very nice meeting you Mark and you certainly filled the parking lot with sound from the tuba. My son commented to me on how good you sounded. I am glad you like the tuba and have given it a good home.

Thanks again,
Rodger :tuba:
