Re: REVIEW: CHI Brass AJ Adjustable Cup Mouthpiece

This is a copy of an adjustable cup mouthpiece that Mr. Jacobs gave me and I have used for 25+ years. It is a specialty mouthpiece, not an “everyday” mouthpiece. Mr. Jacobs said “chose a mouthpiece for it’s sound, not it’s feel.” He would bring several mouthpieces on stage during rehearsals to find t ...

Re: new to me, 1916 frank holton british style 4v Euphonium

I have a Holton double bell from this era, I believe it was made by York. I have a York B flat and brought it to Lee Stofer. He had an identical Hoton B flat. We searched the horns big time including switching slides and valves between the two horns - They were identical! Remember there was once a ...

Re: Rare Tuba Mouthpieces

I have been using Mr. Jacobs' adjustable cup mouthpiece for years. Great for Brahms #2 - you find the sweet spot for the sound you are looking for, that's what Mr. Jacobs did. He even used this with the York for Midsummer Night's Dream! This should be duplicated.

Re: Some swingin' playing by Harvey Phillips with Gil Evans

I have heard this but the story is priceless . . . In 1994 I made my first trip to the Tubaranch along with Arnold Jacobs. Harvey wanted me to stay an extra day to load Windows on his computer. He had an IBM and in those days they had a battle with Microsoft and did not load Windows! It was Harvey ...

Re: "CSO" (Philly) York, and Torchy apparently knocking down some made-up stories...

Stokowski conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra until 1938 then Ormandy (who was the assistant conductor) took over. Jacobs bought the York from Donatelli sometime around 1933 during the Stokowski era - the horn was made a few years earlier. At that time Torchinsky was a student of Jacobs and maybe ...

This was a story that Arnold Jacobs always said.

I have put a video about the York Tuba on my webpage, take a look at https://www.windsongpress.com/25-years-york-tuba/ around 3:50

Re: Getzen CB 50

I made the trip to Iowa with my G-50 for Lee to do his magic. The horn plays much better, I would recommend that anyone who has a CB-50/G-50 contact Lee and have him work on their hor.

Lee, great health news !
