Someone will pay you more for it if it has 5 valves.

Arpthark, I need a phone number I can call to speak to you. I don't understand your message. -Harry or Hank Blake's point is that you're new to this forum and so you are not authorized to use the private message system yet. If you expect someone to be able to contact you, the only avenue you've ...

Re: King 1241 w/German Bell $2500

As a Lurker you won't be able to send PMs. Maybe consider posting up an email so people can contact you. Does it play in tune with the new bell? That looks sweet and has the modernizations applied to it too (1st slide moved to top, 3rd slide curly Q straightened out).

Re: Mozart Requiem

I built the "bell securing position" (a sliding lock ALONG WITH a tension ring) to position the bell up higher...but (at least for a year), I've been using the tension ring ONLY and positioning the bell as shown in the picture. It draws less attention, looks less "Dr. Seuss-like", and the bell ...

Re: No hires

I was told something interesting from someone who has been on panels--it often that you have multiple who CAN do the job just fine, but no one sticks out as a clear winner and the committee can't decide. This seems insane and really disrespectful to all the people who paid to go to that audition ...

Re: Nice Old Style 2341 at Dillons

The 1241/2341 evolution has a lot of twists and turns. I don't really think there is a clear point where a 1241 became an "old style" 2341. The late 70's and 80's "King" had probably more worries than what to call this tuba I guess. 2341 stuck maybe about the UMI time in King's history. Combine that ...

Sam is in Fort Wayne Indiana unless he has moved recently. But like Bloke said, he takes King 1241 bodies, cleans them up in various ways (and cuts them to CC when making a CC), adds a 5th valve, and puts on various older bells to make franken horns.

Re: storage stands

I really like my K+M stand. Sure it takes up space in the middle of the room, but I don't live in a tiny apartment where space is at a premium. It sits in the music room next to a piano that also takes up a lot of space. It is a floor stand so to me the potential damage from falling in the stand is ...

Re: POLL !! - XCVIII (added on p.5 [5-23-22] a picture from 2014)

Finally vented the valves. Suddenly, I don’t have to nurse any slurs . I’m liking this instrument more and more. ... What does this mean? With well sealed, non-vented valves you can get slight back pressure from pushing the valves if there is any air pressure difference between the sealed branch tub ...

Re: Stofer Air Corps?

I don't know how "large" you mean by large rotor tuba, but I play a BBb Marzan (B+M made) Slant Rotor that is not a small horn, and settled on a Stofer Geib many years ago. I still very much enjoy it. It adds a level of harshness to the low range that counteracts the natural tendencies of the horn ...

Elephant's ear training stuff is great advice. If you aren't exaggerating the "This happens to me on all tubas" then it could be the issue. Making your ear better is a good skill to have and you may want to pursue that avenue no matter what, even if it turns out your ear is pretty good already. If ...

I do it too, but I'm pretty sure technically it is illegal. There isn't really a personal use concept except for education and criticism. So putting rented music in ForScore and having it forever and giving back the rented music is technically illegal. But it sure won't be worth anyone's time to do ...

I really like the K&M 14940 floor stands. They are sort of expensive, but very sturdy and I do not worry about a horn falling over in it. I do not at all regret buying one and would recommend it.

Re: Sousaphone Gig Bags: What do you want?

I've never had a gig bag for my sousaphone. I do have many things I hate about my SKB hard case though, starting with it not fitting in the trunk of my car and only barely fitting in the backseat of my car with a lot of work on my part. I do not take the case with me when I have a sousa gig unless ...
