3rd valve inconsistency

Post by sdloveless »

Howdy folks!

I have a question about, or problem with, the 3rd valve on my 1240. When playing notes with 3rd valve, such as the Db, C (especially C), and B below the staff, the horn sounds and feels like it has water in it. Even if it definitely does not have any water in it. Those notes are also hard to center and difficult to play at low volume. It's not quite as pronounced with Gb, F or E below those notes. I would not necessarily describe the sound as "stuffy".

Any thoughts? Valve alignment issue? Problem between mouthpiece and chair?

Between the mouthpiece and the chair, I'd try changing the chair first.

Thos is really gross - and I hope this isn’t your problem…or maybe I do, because it’s easy to fix.
There might be some huge disgusting ”schmultz- flap” hanging somewhere in that circuit. I’ve seen it happen before, and with professional players. I controlled my facial expressions in front of them, so they would not see how utterly disgusted I was...

I will put some effort into cleaning out that circuit. Thank you.

I've change the mouthpiece and the chair. The only constant is the weak link between them...
