York Tuba, sister horn to “the” York

Not sure if someone here grabbed this but I saw it on FB yesterday. Quite the provenance, was only available for a few mins before it was marked sold.

Any other background would be cool to know.

I did not, but I noticed that it had a "Curtis Institute of Music" engraving underneath the York engraving. Pretty dang cool.

I think the ad listed $5,000 but the text said they were looking for offers.

Based on the length of the first valve slide and just eyeballing the overall length of tubing, I think it is a CC.

That is one of the earlier 4/4 CCs I believe.The bell looks weirdly large but that might be distortion from the camera. Later model 4/4 CCs (not that there were ever many made of either, didn't have the curly cue in the third valve tubing (like the difference between King 1241 and later model 2341s).

Coolest thing, imo, is that it has a fifth valve. I haven’t seen a York, other than the two CSO Yorks, with a rotary fifth. Plus the little flip on the ferrules to clear the rotor for disassembly.

Looks like fifth is a flat semitone. On a CC, this automatically devalues it to the same price as a Cerveny with the flat semitone fifth. Like $2400.

Thanks for this! Looks like the same model, besides the fifth valve, low pitch loop and detachable bell. Wrap and bell profile and such are the same. (At the time of that post, my TubeNet account was a year old and I was in college )

Ignoring the silver loss. I like how it looked before the mods better. Had a really tidy look with the valves basically centered in the bugle and equal-ish slide lengths above and below. Curtis one is similarly handsome.

Looking at it (PT-606P progenitor) again, isn't the curlycue slide the 4th valve? Guessing the idea was 123 plus long 4 for low register.
