Repertoire lists?

Post by DonO. »

When I was a young apprentice tuba major back in the 70’s, I used to love getting the Robert King Brass Player’s Guide every year to plan and order what I was going to study each semester. Everything you could possibly want was in one place: etude books, excerpt books, solos, duets, ensembles, etc. Fantastic resource. Fast forward to today, and me playing tuba once again after an over 20 year hiatus. I was surprised to find that the Robert King guide was no longer published because there was no more Robert King. Their music still existed, but now published by Alphonse Leduc. But the charm of RK was you could buy music of all publishers, and it was all nicely categorized. Stupidly, when I sold my old tuba, I also got rid of all my music, thinking I would never need it again. :facepalm2: So I bought the etude books I wanted from Sheet Music Plus. Now, after 5 months of etudes, scales, technique builders, and so forth, I want to work on some actual solos. Is there any modern day equivalent of the Robert King Guide, a place where you can find all the tuba music from all the publishers listed, organized, and available for purchase?

Try Amazon. "Tuba Music Guide". There's a couple of books you might find helpful.

"A Practical Guide to Selected Solos for Euphonium and Tuba Kindle Edition
by Clayton Lehman (Author) Format: Kindle Edition"

If you want to see what's out there, Hickey's site is well organized. I used to order from them back when I was in college (and dinousaurs rules the earth...). They also have a graded solos list here. If you do a web search on "tuba audition list" you'll also get lots of hits from various schools and institutions.

Thanks to all! I have bought the referenced Kindle book and it should be a good starting point. It would appear that Hickey’s has inherited the status of best one stop shopping for tuba music from Robert King. Will most likely order from them so that I can get what I want with just one order.
