Pizzicato on tuba

None of the bands that I play in have a string bass player so the tubas quite often get passed those parts. I have always played pizzicato notes with a bit of length to them, with a decay to simulate the pluck and what happens afterward. One of the guys I sit next to always plays them staccato no ma...

Re: Kevin Hendrick

I was fortunate to have sat next to Kevin for many years at Western Michigan University and local community bands. He had a monster talent - I never heard him play a wrong note. Ever! He was a hoot to talk with - he had a very clever wit and was incredibly smart. He could discuss any subject at leng...

I had one of these. Almost from the get-go I could not wait to sell it and get a better horn.

Who put hat 5th valve on it for you? I've got three 2280's and I agree - they are great horns.

Re: P̶e̶r̶f̶e̶c̶t̶ ̶P̶i̶t̶c̶h̶ Perfect Time

When I need to count seconds, I just sing to myself The Stars and Stripes Forever. Sometimes when I am awake in bed at night I will look at the clock and start the tune when the minute changes, just to see how close I can get. I can count to 60 and the next minute shows on the clock, usually within ...

I was not talking about his looks, but his sound.

You, sir, have a face made for tuba. I am insanely jealous. I won't argue, but what does that mean? Face=embouchure. That he can triple-tongue that low and that loud, to me, means that his embouchure works very efficiently. I've played this part on this piece and was never able to make i...

Re: Did someone get a deal on this tuba?

So here's the link to the auction: https://www.govplanet.com/for-sale/Shop%2C-Warehouse-%26-Consumer-Tuba-Pennsylvania/4437199 According to the sticker on the tuba, the government paid $4,416 for it so I doubt it's a Wilson, but it also calls it a "Bass, Upright" so who knows if that's cor...

Did someone get a deal on this tuba?

This tuba was on a government auction website recently. It went for $3,545 - seems like a lot of money to me. Does anyone know what it is and what they go for usually? Is the winning bidder here on this forum?
