Re: Conn Rotary - pics added

I read in a German forum that Amati/Cerveny had sold their tubas in Austria under the brand Musica, later Stowasser.

Re: Concerto for three tubas

Sounds great. The Trio 21meter60 had a wonderful performance at a workshop of the Deutsche Tubaforum last year. Their debut album "nothing but tuba" also is great.

Re: Unfocused/centered Bb

Hey folks, This might belong in the repair section, but here goes. A friend let me borrow an old Conn Eb sousaphone (looks like the one for sale on this board) and he doesn't like how the 4th valve Bb (two ledger line) plays. I've played on it for a bit and yes, it does seem a bit odd, like it ...

Somebody wrote, Schenkelaars rotary tuba (or parts of them) were made in Germany by Böhm & Meinl, Geretsried.

Re: Opinions on NEW Cerveny?

As i wrote in another thread, i sold my 70th Amati 481 (like Cerveny 681) in Feb. 2021 to get a new Cerveny CBB686-4B Symphonia 3. I'm still glad i did ist. Better to play because of the Minibal linkage and in my opinion a better sound.

Re: Prokofiev Piano 1 - D♭ (OMG...a POLL !!!) 😲

The concert was composed and premiered in Russia. At that time Zimmermann BBb tubas were probably used there. A tubist with ukrainian roots said in an YouTube video, that just a few years ago they still played there everyhing with St Pete (Zimmermann) BBb tuba.

There is no German acronym because it's an US thing :coffee:

Eb fingering in general works. To use the index finger of my left hand is the problem...

I'm trying to get familiar with my new-to-me 4+1 Eb. I didn't think it would be so difficult for me. :wall:

Re: Lignatone BBb Tuba

I read that Lignatone, Cerveny, Amati, Stowasser... were brands of Amati-Denak.
Would like to know which Cerveny model my Lignatone corresponds to. Maybe the 681 (or Amati 481)?

Yes, most german/bohemian rotary tubas of that era have that. You get used to it.

DonO. wrote: Sat Jun 18, 2022 8:39 pm Lignatone tubas were made by Cerveny. The wide brace connecting the main tuning slide to the bottom bow is the dead giveaway. I see it has the Nutbuster. I hate those. But otherwise I’ll bet it’s a good horn once you put the needed work into it.
Nutbuster?

Lignatone BBb Tuba

On Wednesday I bought an old Lignatone tuba. Four rotary valves, at least 4/4, 40'' tall with a 16'' (40 cm) bell. I needed a second BBb tuba for outside. It was a good offer, so I took it. It needs cleaning and some repairs: two tuning slides are stuck and the first valve does not work optimally ...

Re: Cerveny News

I have a serious question, and I’m not trying to imply an answer by asking it: I’ve played six or seven different full-size-or-larger models made by that company. Ignoring the student stuff (which are not included in the tabulation), which models - other than the B-flat 681 and Arion models (to whi ...
