Interesting - how much did it run you? And - did it fit?

Re: Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short
That's interesting, because I mostly drop-ship those tubas and don't recall working on any of them, other than maybe one or two early ones that had fourth valve circuits that were too long - a problem that they fixed at the factory, not long after... but there are lots of things that I don't ...

Re: Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short
Do you have a local guy who has the ability to disassemble the the five components of your main tuning slide, put it back together with some substitute components, shine it up, and shoot some rattle can lacquer on it? When I do this I will probably use Mark Metzler in Elkhart IN. I don't know him ...

Re: Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short
Q I have not had a whole lot of luck getting Mack Brass to respond to requests for parts. A Have you tried calling? Tom is hard to reach via email but I've talked to him over the phone a handful of times. I needed one several years ago. I called. He sent. It fit. :tuba: You requested a longer ...

Seems like I remember hearing that he stocks some parts.
(I know that Miraphone offers these for their instruments…)

Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short
Folks - I have a Mack Brass 410 that, while I like it a lot, I am always on the sharp side with it, and to me the tuning slide is just too short. That and the first valve slide seems really short too. I don't play this horn often because of this, but as I get older I am looking at lighter options ...

Re: 3/4 rut
My first tuba was a 184-4U CC Miraphone that I got in college. Now it's the only horn I still use. I played one of them in the middle 80's in college. It was a school horn, loved it and wish I had one now. As I get older my 4/4 BBb (VMI 3302), although I love playing it, seems to get heavier every ...

In every community band I have ever been in, if you can cover the part nobody will know the difference.

Re: Mack Brass TU410
So here is a picture of the backside of the 3rd valve of my Mack 410, bought in 2016. Witness marks are clearly visible from the factory. They are not big, but they are there. as far as I am concerned the only way to make sure your valves are indexed is to use a bore scope.

Re: Catholic church choir lofts
Episcopal is the same. The 5'8" guy drags his three timpani up there, I drag a couple of different tubas up there. There are one-holer restrooms on either side of the main doors to the sanctuary. The brass quintet is always broken up on either side of the organ console. No, there is no elevator ...

Catholic church choir lofts
Last night I had a rehearsal with a quintet in choir loft at a local Catholic church. Liked to kill me getting my bulk and my horn up and down the narrow two flights of stairs to get to this tiny little space. I am glad that I decided to go with a smaller tuba (that has a Miraphone gig bag with ...

Fanfare from La Peri by Dukas has always been one of my favorite brass choir pieces - not too long and not too hard.

Re: Setting a tuba or euph on its bell…
There are some horns that can't be set on it's bell. My euph, a King 2280, has a center of gravity such that it just falls over if you set it down on the bell. My brass tech says nearly ever one of that model he has ever seen has a brace pushed in on the front from falling, mine included.

Re: Vinyl bell rim tubing?
You can make a tubing slitter by drilling an appropriately-sized hole in a board, sawing down to the hole from the edge, then putting a utility knife blade into the saw kerf such that the blade is part way into the hole. If you clamp down on the kerf with a vise it all stays put. Then pull your ...

Re: POLL: bringing more than one tuba to a community band concert is...
I bring my Bb and my Eb to the last concert of the summer in my local band every year - They let me play the piccolo part on Stars and Stripes and I can't walk up front with my Bb and play it standing. That is the only time all year I ever use the Eb.
