Re: Meistersinger on F

So many great players over the past several decades have played Meistersinger on CC. And they’ve sounded great on it. And they didn’t have tuba forums telling them what is right or wrong. But for me, playing it on a CC tuba is a long road to a small house; which is to say that the payoff doesn’t just ...

Re: What's the 188 of F tubas

I’ve never played a Meinl Weston 45SLZ that was less than outstanding. Great sound, pitch, and response. Wish they were still part of their regular production line of instruments. Probably why they don’t show up on the used market with much frequency.

Bump.

Hit me up with what you've got for trade, even if it’s not on my list. Worst I can say is no.

Also, feel free to make offers for an outright purchase.

This fine instrument is currently sitting in the corner, getting lonely.

FT/FS: Meinl Weston 6450/2 Handmade 6/4 CC tuba: $OLD!!

I bought this tuba approximately two years ago. Has served me well, but I’m planning on using my 195P for large scale orchestral works in the future, so it’s been in its case for the last 4 months. Was cleaned in the spring and has probably been played 45 minutes since then. I’d like to be able to ke ...

Up for sale is a 1975 vintage Besson New Standard Euphonium, Serial #578666. Posting this for a local professional who switched to an Adams a couple of years ago. Re: Looking to downsize...my tuba, that is

I could be incorrect, but I think I’ve read some reviews from recent convention goers of that 185 that Dillon has in stock.

Not particularly glowing, to say the least.

Again, I could be incorrect………

Re: more on: no longer owning a C tuba

I bought a Meinl Weston Fafner 195P a while back. I LOVE the way my 6450/2 handles, but I prefer the depth of sound that comes out of the Bb. Been doing the relearning Bb thing for a bit. Kopprasch, Bordogni, Bordogni 8vb, Arban, Tyrell with a handful of excerpts thrown in for good measure. A few ...

Re: I'm thinking of...

Beversdorf Sonata is one of the best pieces for contrabass.
Great, totally underrated solo for the instrument.

Came out a few months after the Hindemith Sonata, which has probably stolen all of its historical thunder.

For those programming it, hire a good accompanist

Lived in Southern California (Palm Desert and Corona) for a while. Just visited LA for fun a few weeks ago. Played Golf, toured the Chinese Theater, saw a movie across the street at the El Capitan, went to see Ohtani pitch at the Big A, hit a bunch of movie filming locations, went to Watts Tower ...

Re: MW 2182 vs 2182W

I’ve never played them side by side, so take it with a grain of salt, but I don’t remember the 2182/2182W playing much different from each other. Both are nice tubas. Don’t work for everyone, but there’s a lot of people who really like them. I can say without hesitation that the 2182 is considerably ...

Re: HB2P

I’ll chime in for David.

He bought his MRPCC from me, which I sold after buying my handmade 6450.

David is great to work with, and that MRP is an exceptional instrument. Hope it all works out!
