Re: What make and model of 6/4 CC tuba should my parents buy for me for college?
Everytime I see a freshman say they are going to get XYZ 6/4 CC, I have to shake my head.

Re: Eb tubas
I cannot believe I am actually saying this, but I have been playing exclusively Eb (and some BBb) for the last several years, and I love my Eb tubas. I have used them on everything from Orchestra, Band, Brass Band, Quintet, Quartet, to Jazz Band. I have a Big Mouth Brass Eb and a Boosey & Hawkes ...

Re: 10-page early 1970's Miraphone tuba brochure
Mr. Rose was a rock star with the biggest heart. I miss him being around to listen, advise, or just listen to him tell a good story about general tomfoolery on the back row of the Houston Symphony.

Re: Musings On Learning E♭ Tuba
All the parts are in treble clef (except bass trombone). The fellow with the Eb tuba has the right combination. He's a bass trombone player first, though, so he may think in concert pitches and transpose from the Eb part; I've never asked. Mike Lynch and I are both playing Fs, and we transpose and ...

Re: Looking to downsize...my tuba, that is
Jim, I have a 3/4 Weril CC. It is a very small yamaclone of the small CC Yamaha. It is a 4 valve piston horn but gets the job done when needed.

Re: Appropriate tubas for brass band
If the club will buy Eb and Bb basses, that’s great. If not, your charged with how much you want to pursue ($$$$) the traditional sound. My opinion is that a great band is a great band, but having the proper basses does provide the proper color to the sound to a discernible extent. If the band isn’t ...

Re: The first Texas Brass Fest!
https://youtu.be/ifSfHva1W0A This is from the mass brass band rehearsal that happened earlier in the morning and shot from the Eb tuba side of the back row. There were 18 tubas total with the BBb side having CC and BBb tubas and Eb side with F and Eb tubas. On the other side of Mike Lynch is Doc ...

Re: 6/4 glut
You win jobs on a 4/4 and 5/4 horns. When the job needs it, you purchase a 6/4 horn with the money you are making from winning your job on your 4/4-5/4 horn.

I love my PT-5P (It is essentially a PT-6P). It is a fantastic horn and a sound like no other instrument I have played. I have had that horn for 30 years and do not plan on giving it up.

Texas-Texas-Texas/yankee-yankee-yankee... ... but this Mississippi delta school band - in the "backward" State of Mississippi - I'm sure would stand up with the best of them. I wish I could have played in the band like this when I was in high school. Me too, and I am from Texas-Texas-Texas!!

My favorite is the incoming freshman that is actually told by their teacher that they need a 6/4 CC.

Re: TMEA Gem
I played that horn. I didn't find anything all that special about it. Fairly covered bland sound, and below average response in the low register. For a Chinese CC tuba, I'd rather get an eastman. (even the 632, which I may like more than the 832) I think it very much depends on the mouthpiece that ...

This is the Chinese built Nirschl 4/4 clone, no? Not a Nirschl clone. But it is Manufactured in China. I bet the person you were talking to said Besson instead of Getzen. The 795 is the new version of the Besson 995 made in China, and the 995 was a Nirschl design. I can never manage a conversation ...

Re: TMEA Gem
Im curious about the rotor location. It looks like its right under the palm of your hand. Did it rub on your hand occasionally while playing? Some people move thier hands a lot when they play. I like the short linkage to the lever, seems like it would be more stable. Really cool though. Sent from ...
